Gore Mutual and water damage: what’s covered and how the claim works
This page explains how Gore Mutual handles water damage on a home policy, in plain language, with the facts taken from Gore Mutual’s own website. It is general information, not advice on your policy. Your policy documents and your claims representative are the final word on what you hold.
Which Gore Mutual coverage applies to what you’re seeing
Start with where the water came from. That decides which part of the policy it falls under.
- Burst pipe or appliance leak
- Standard sudden and accidental water damage.
- Sewer backup
- Water Escape, or Water Escape Plus.
- Failed service line on your property
- Water Escape, or Water Escape Plus.
- Overland water
- Water Escape Plus only.
- Damage caused by a failure off your property
- The municipality’s responsibility, not these coverages.
Water Escape or Water Escape Plus
Gore Mutual has two water add-ons. Water Escape covers sewer backup and failure of the service lines on your property. Water Escape Plus covers both of those and overland water as well.
Gore also points out that these cover damage from causes on your property. If the cause was off your property, such as a blocked municipal main, the city or municipality is responsible, which is one more reason to report a backup on 311 in Toronto.
You can always use your own contractor
Gore Mutual runs a Restoration Contractors Network with preferred pricing and a workmanship guarantee. But its claims page says you always have the option to use your own contractor. If you want us, tell Gore or your broker when you open the claim.
What we do on a Gore Mutual claim
We stop the damage, document it from the first hour and dry the structure to a measured standard. If the cause may be off your property, we photograph and record the evidence, so your adjuster and the municipality have what they need.
Our experience with Gore Mutual claims
Insurance claims are most of our work, and we have handled claims for Gore Mutual policyholders. We know what the Gore Mutual claims team asks for and how its water coverage is set up, so the evidence your adjuster needs is collected from the first hour instead of pieced together afterwards.
You deal with one team from the first call to the final repair. We answer the adjuster’s questions ourselves, and we tell you plainly what your policy is likely to cover before any work that is not an emergency.
