RBC Insurance and water damage: what’s covered and how the claim works
This page explains how RBC Insurance handles water damage on a home policy, in plain language, with the facts taken from RBC Insurance’s own website. It is general information, not advice on your policy. Your policy documents and your claims representative are the final word on what you hold.
Which RBC Insurance coverage applies to what you’re seeing
Start with where the water came from. That decides which part of the policy it falls under.
- Burst pipe or appliance leak inside the home
- Standard sudden and accidental internal water damage.
- Backup through drains, sewer pipes, septic systems or sump pumps
- Sewer Back-up Coverage endorsement.
- Torrential rain, rapid snowmelt, overflowing lakes and rivers
- Overland water endorsement.
- Fresh water entering suddenly through foundations or basement walls
- Overland water endorsement.
Your RBC claim goes to Aviva
RBC Insurance home and auto products are distributed by RBC Insurance Agency and underwritten by Aviva General Insurance Company. When you call the RBC home claims line, your claims advisor can schedule repairs through Aviva’s network of contractors.
That means the Aviva rules apply to your water coverage. See our Aviva page for how Aviva’s sewer backup and overland water options fit together.
What the endorsements cover
The Sewer Back-up Coverage endorsement covers the sudden backing up of water or sewage through drains, sewer pipes, septic systems, sump pits and sump pumps. Overland water covers torrential rain, rapid snowmelt and overflowing lakes and rivers, including fresh water that enters suddenly through foundations, basement walls or basement doors.
What we do on an RBC claim
We stop the damage and build the record: extraction, moisture mapping, drying to a measured standard with daily logs, and photographs of everything before it is removed. If you want us rather than a network contractor, say so when you call.
Our experience with RBC Insurance claims
Insurance claims are most of our work, and we have handled claims for RBC Insurance policyholders. We know what the RBC Insurance claims team asks for and how its water coverage is set up, so the evidence your adjuster needs is collected from the first hour instead of pieced together afterwards.
You deal with one team from the first call to the final repair. We answer the adjuster’s questions ourselves, and we tell you plainly what your policy is likely to cover before any work that is not an emergency.
