Travelers Canada and water damage: what’s covered and how the claim works
This page explains how Travelers Canada handles water damage on a home policy, in plain language, with the facts taken from Travelers Canada’s own website. It is general information, not advice on your policy. Your policy documents and your claims representative are the final word on what you hold.
Which Travelers Canada coverage applies to what you’re seeing
Start with where the water came from. That decides which part of the policy it falls under.
- Burst pipe or appliance leak
- Standard sudden and accidental water damage.
- Backup through sewers, drains or sump pumps
- Optional sewer backup coverage.
- Overland flooding
- Optional coverage, depending on where you live.
- Groundwater
- Optional coverage, depending on where you live.
Travelers home policies are now Definity
If your home insurance says Travelers Canada, it is now serviced by Definity Insurance Company, which also owns Economical and Sonnet. Travelers says the change does not affect your coverage. Travelers Canada still offers business insurance, surety bonds and new home warranties.
If you are not sure which number to call, your broker will know, and the Travelers claim line will direct you.
What is and is not covered
Travelers says certain sudden and accidental water losses, such as a burst pipe, may be covered by a standard policy, but that sewer backup, overland flooding and groundwater may need additional coverage, depending on where you live.
What we do on the claim
We extract the water, find everything that is wet, dry the structure to a measured standard and document it all, so the adjuster has the evidence whichever company is handling the file.
Our experience with Travelers Canada claims
Insurance claims are most of our work, and we have handled claims for Travelers Canada policyholders. We know what the Travelers Canada claims team asks for and how its water coverage is set up, so the evidence your adjuster needs is collected from the first hour instead of pieced together afterwards.
You deal with one team from the first call to the final repair. We answer the adjuster’s questions ourselves, and we tell you plainly what your policy is likely to cover before any work that is not an emergency.
