RSA Canada and water damage: who handles the claim now

Which RSA Canada coverage applies to what you’re seeing

Start with where the water came from. That decides which part of the policy it falls under.

Burst pipe or appliance leak
Normally covered as sudden and accidental water damage.
Sewer backup
Included on some RSA policies; an optional Water Damage Extension on others.
Flooding from outside
Depends on your policy. Check your latest documents.

What happened to RSA Canada

Intact Financial Corporation acquired RSA in 2021. RSA’s Canadian website, rsagroup.ca, now redirects to belairdirect, which is Intact’s direct insurance brand. Policies sold through brokers under RSA may since have been renewed under another Intact company.

The practical answer: look at your most recent renewal documents for the company name and claims number, or call your broker. Either will get you to the right claims team.

Sewer backup on RSA policies

RSA said that some of its policies included sewer backup while others offered it as an optional Water Damage Extension. If your policy has been renewed under Intact or belairdirect, the coverage is likely called the Enhanced Water Damage Package instead.

What we do while the claim is being sorted out

Working out which company holds your policy should not hold up the drying. We extract the water, set up drying and document everything from the first hour, then send the record to whichever claims team picks up your file.

Our experience with RSA Canada claims

Insurance claims are most of our work, and we have handled claims for RSA Canada policyholders. We know what the RSA Canada claims team asks for and how its water coverage is set up, so the evidence your adjuster needs is collected from the first hour instead of pieced together afterwards.

You deal with one team from the first call to the final repair. We answer the adjuster’s questions ourselves, and we tell you plainly what your policy is likely to cover before any work that is not an emergency.
